TEXAS.  “It’s a whole other country.”

Texas has several must see travel destinations. It is 2nd largest state with almost 270,000 square miles of places to enjoy. Due to the sheer size of the state, there are so many different types of geography to see from the beach front on the Gulf of Mexico,  deserts of West Texas to the Guadalupe mountain range.   Whether you are on a short trip or taking a more leisurely approach, below are some places you definitely could see.

*Galveston–Located on the Gulf of Mexico, this island has a multitude of things to do. From hanging out of the beach, taking a dolphin tour, riding the ferry, salt-water fishing or exploring the seawall shops, you can enjoy the water life. If you prefer to stay off the water, you can explore Moody Gardens, the museums, shopping and lots and lots of seafood restaurants. The food is spectacular.

*Austin- No visit to Texas would be complete without a stop in the State Capital. This bustling city is the political heart of Texas and the Capital building building is a must see. The city has walking tours, museums, historical areas and great shopping and restaurants. There is bustling nightlife and music scene. Don’t forget to see the bats that fly out from under Congress bridge every night at dusk.

*San Antonio- No visit to Texas is complete without seeing the history of the Alamo. Actually seeing it in person will bring it to life. Take a ride down the Riverwalk to see the incredible lights of the city. You can visit SeaWorld or Fiesta Texas for family fun.

*Fort Worth- Visit this city for a look at how the West was won. Watch a real cattle drive at the historic Stockyards, visit the world class Zoo, Botanical Gardens or take a walk down the Trinity River. There are a lot of great food and nightlife to enjoy also.

*Houston- Just 40 miles from Galveston, Houston is the largest city in Texas. There is so much to see and do such as the Zoo, Johnson Space Center, the world famous Livestock Show and Rodeo and Houston Aquarium. Enjoy the food and atmosphere of a true Texas city.

By adding Texas to your vacation itinerary, you can soak up the culture of the West.  As a life-long resident of Texas, I can truly recommend my home state for a great place to visit.
